Will the property of The Old Game Farm be used to open a zoo again?

The new owners have no intentions of opening the property as a zoo again.  They are, however, very interested in preserving what they can for the public to be able to visit and reminisce.  Their ultimate goals include having a museum dedicated to the history of the property as well as having workshops to teach children and families about agricultural animals.  They would be open to having a section of the property sub-let to an outside group to be re-purposed as an animal sanctuary, rehabilitation center or something similar.

Are The Old Game Farm & Bailiwick Ranch & Discovery Zoo the same?

Bailiwick Ranch and Discovery Zoo is located near the former location of The Catskill Game Farm but they are not the same property and/or business.  Bailiwick Ranch and Discovery Zoo has been an operational Horse Ranch for as long as The Catskill Game Farm was open but the two were by separate families.  If you visit Bailiwick you will likely notice that many of the structures and even some of the animals may look familiar because many of them were bought from The Catskill Game Farm to be used when thy converted their property.

What do the new owners plan on doing with the property?

The new owners have a lot of big plans for the property.  They would like to convert much of the land into a campground and RV Resort with an Inn (converting the Giraffe barn for this purpose) and the ability to have special events.

They currently have a tent site hosted by TENTRR on the property if you are interested in camping please visit: HERE

To see more about their plans please visit: Our Plans.

Is it true that I can CAMP at The Old Game Farm?

Yes, Tentrr, which is a company specializing in glamping sites on private properties has established 2 unique campsiteS on The Old Game Farm Property.  To learn more please visit: Camping

What do donations go towards?

All donations go to cleaning up the property, making it safer for visitors to walk around and to ensuring there is a portolet available for visitors while they are at The Old Game Farm (available from mid-April through October).  Realistically we do not find it feasible to receive enough donation to get a large scale project off the ground.  We are seeking investors for Our Plans.  Please feel free to see our Take Action page for more information about donations, how they are used and how you can take the leap into helping make a difference!

How long will it be before the property is open to the public again?

The owners are currently seeking investors for their plans (please see: Our Plans).  There are two projects they are seeking financing for, each of which they anticipate will take one year to complete to allow the doors to be open to the public.  Until then they currently allow visitors to walk property (self guided), they require visitors to contact them in advance to set a date.  They are often able to accommodate your schedule given sufficient notice.  Effective as of the beginning of 2015 they are requesting donations for allowing access to the property (the amount is up to your discretion), all donations go towards cleaning up the property, making it safer for visitors to walk around and to insuring there is a portolet available (from mid-April through October-regularly cleaned).  This donation can be made either in advance or in person when you come to the property.  Someone must meet you to gain you access, have you sign a waiver and to ensure everything is locked up after you are finished.  To plan your trip please see: Visit.

There is zero tolerance for those found trespassing on the property, you must have permission!  The cops love any excuse to come visit, they came here as kids to!

Are the train, cauldron, any of the animals or memorabilia still on the property?

CatskillGameFarmLadderTruck.jpg

The train, cauldron, animals and overwhelming majority of the memorabilia was all gone before the new owners purchased the property.  We do hear from time to time that the fire truck makes appearances at car shows and rumors that the train was purchased by someone in the region although we have not heard more about its whereabouts.  Even many of the cages, pens and some of the buddings were sold and relocated to Bailiwick Ranch and Discovery Zoo, Cobleskill Fairground and other places all over the country.  When we hear of new stories and locations for some of the items from The Catskill Game Farm we plan on letting everyone know on our Blog and Facebook.  As for the animals please see:  http://www.all-creatures.org/articles/ar-wheretheanimals.html for more information.

Where did all the animals go after The Catskill Game Farm closed?

The many animals The Catskill Game Farm had at their zoo when they closed in 2006 were sold and/or relocated all over the US.  Please see for more information at: http://www.all-creatures.org/articles/ar-wheretheanimals.html for more information.

Do the new owners have any animals on the property?

There are several animals on the property, many of which are not owned by The Old Game Farm owners.  Currently, there are pigs, peacocks, horses and a collection of goats.  Space is rented out to people who have animals but do not have the space to keep them and the type and/or number of animals are always changing!  There are also the owners pets which you may be greeted with if you come to visit including a red headed mix named Grady and Steve the cat who will often act as your tour guide.

What do the owners plan on doing with the buildings and/or infrastructure on the property?

They plan on keeping as much original as possible including re-purposing the infrastructure where and when they can.  This will include converting the Giraffe House into an Inn, the concession stands into locations for local artisans to be able to do workshops to teach those staying at the campground and much more.

Do the new owners allow events on the property?

The owners do not currently allow events on the property.  There are a lot of hazards that currently make this impossible.  Although, in the future it is in their plans to be able to.  They would be open to having events as long as someone interested had experience and financing to back the event.
